United RC Top Summer Series
Brandon Lock and Kyle Stout, the duo behind the powerhouse squad, United Rollerchairball Club, finished the 2007 National League of Rollerchairball Summer Series on top of the leader board. Lock and Stout teamed for each event during the summer circuit, finishing with the gold medal at every tourney. Both players finished the summer-long points standings with 4800 points.
Andrew Wood, member of The Andrew Wood Project and La Teeze, finished ahead of the rest of the pack in third place with 3800 points. Wood’s solid finishes throughout the summer gave him breathing room ahead of fourth-place finishers, Taylor Greene and Mackenzie Eckert of Cinco de Marco, both of whom notched 2600 points. The ladies pulled one of the greatest upsets in NLR history as they ousted second-seeded The Andrew Wood Project at the Ohio State Onslaught in June. They became the first female duo to reach the medals at a NLR competition. Their strong finish could not catch Wood, however.
United RC faced few challenges during their unprecedented run. The team remains undefeated since forming in 1999.
Taylor Greene topped the High School Division with 3200 points, ahead of Douglas Tatz with 2400. The bronze medal went to surprising upstart Craig Eckert, who tallied 1800 points.
Mackenzie Eckert and Kyle Stout edged Greene and Wood for the top spot on the Mixed Doubles leader board. Eckert and Stout, comprising The Frog Prince, won by the slimmest of margins: 100 points.
The 2007 NLR Summer Series was a tremendous success, despite the cancellation of the season finale due to venue conflicts. Check out the Final Standings. Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who enjoyed the events during the season.
